Ito Toryo, born and raised in Gion, Kyoto, underwent training at a specialized dojo of the Kencho-ji Temple sect. Providing Zen meditation guidance to over 150,000 people, he shares the teachings of Zen philosophy. Currently serving as Vice Abbot of Ryosoku-in, a sub-temple of Kencho-ji, he focuses on Zen education globally.

Ryosoku-in has served as a venue for various art events, including KYOTOGRAPHIE. Recent collaborations with international artists, such as Harold Ancart’s exhibition in New York, showcase efforts to connect tradition with the contemporary. In the “Virtual Ryosoku-in,” bridging the real and virtual, activities like the “Ryosoku-in Multiverse Exhibition” explore digital realms.

Launching the Global Meditation Community “UnXe,” Toryo hosts online zazen sessions accessible worldwide. These live sessions feature 45 minutes of guided meditation and discussions, facilitated by a Zen Monk and moderated by a Creator.

He introduced the meditation app “InTrip,” offering daily tips to incorporate Zen and mindfulness into daily life.

Collaborating with architect Joe Jun Liao on the mobile tearoom “FUUUN,” inspired by Zen principles—Undefined, Unattached, and Unlimited—Toryo provides Zen supervision.

Zen philosophy inspires new possibilities in business, universal teachings for personal growth. In Buddhism, attaining the state of impermanence and non-self is a key goal, guiding individuals to accept life’s transient nature and detach from personal desires. Zazen, a key Zen practice, fosters stillness and mindfulness, facilitating self-awareness and a sense of oneness with nature.
